Laughter Yoga - This was started in 1995 by Dr. Kataria from India. Research shows that laughter has numerous positive effects that occur within the mind and body. It helps reduce stress, calms the mind, boosts the immune system and brings joy and positive energy into the body. A session starts with gentle stretching with the body. After warming up, the fun, interactive and playful Laughter Yoga exercises begin. The various exercises encourage creative expression and helps one revisit the "kid" within. This opens up the heart and allows the participants to connect with each other on a whole new joyful level. There is a small portion of the session where everyone comes together and just laughs freely, listening to all the collective sounds filter around as a group. This creates a ripple effect, resulting in waves of unscripted laughter! At the end, as a grounding piece, there is a deep relaxation.
iCan Yoga - The intention for this class is to make all bigger bodies feel welcome and not be intimidated by how they move around others. This is for those who are apprehensive to try your typical "stereotype thin and flexible" class. This is a gentle class that offers participants more modified versions of yoga poses to fit individual body abilities based on mobility or physical limitations. We work on the energetic alignment to connect the mind with the body. Once the mind starts to feel better, the body will follow. I want to empower students as they learn more about what their bodies CAN do and feel great about it!
Beginning Yoga - This is for those students who have been curious about what yoga is about without getting too in depth with difficult, more advanced poses. This class teaches the basics of yoga. Poses are taught at the beginning level. Several breath practices are introduced. This gives a great overview of yoga and can be used as a foundation for further study.
